Why Life Sciences?
The School of Life Sciences (SLS), Peking University, originated from the Department of Biology, which was established in 1925 as one of the earliest biology departments among higher education institutions in China.
The SLS ranks among the top in terms of comprehensive strength among the life science institutions in China. The undergraduate education philosophy of SLS requires students to have a solid and profound understanding of professional knowledge and a broad perspective. Students are encouraged to think critically and creatively and are expected to be eager in their thinking and bold in their practice. Since biology and biotechnology encompass a broad knowledge base as well as interdisciplinary expertise, the SLS provides comprehensive interdisciplinary training for undergraduate students. In recent years, through teaching reforms such as the " Undergraduate Honors Program in Biology", "Small Class Teaching", and "Module-based Teaching Program", the SLS has broken the traditional approach of "from textbooks to textbooks" and promoted a shift towards "from textbooks to practice." As a result, 100% of undergraduate students participate in scientific research, approximately 25-30% of students publish their research results in SCI journals during their undergraduate studies, and about 90% of undergraduate students choose to pursue further studies at top domestic and international universities after graduation.
